E-Mail Address, Multiple - When setting up your e-mail, it is
strongly recommended that you set up a primary account for trusted recipients,
e.g. family, friends, others you trust, and one or more other accounts
for everything else. By doing this the likelihood of your primary
e-mail address getting spammed is reduced greatly. If you have several
secondary addresses, if one starts getting lots of spam, you can change
it without affecting those in your primary account address book.
A: The answer is not simple. Some Registry problems are a result of poor housekeeping, e.g. uninstalling a program by just deleting the "obvious" files. In such a case any Registry Cleaner may not be able to do a good and/or safe clean up. For most users, it is recommended
that they start by using a program such as CCleaner
. Following are some recommendations when setting up:
Note: CCleaner includes an
easy to configure cookie cleaner which only gets rid of cookies you don't
want.

Information on some items discussed: 1. Picasa Organize Your Pictures - A question was asked about organizing photos on your hard drive. Picasa is a popular, free program. For an overview of how they organize pictures, check out their Getting Started Guide. 2. SnapFiles - SnapFiles is a file download site, both Freeware and Sharware, for a great many types of software. They do not make any of the software! Each product is submitted by a software company or developer - a link to the developer's web site is included with every description. What they do is review and rate the software, categorize it and make it available to you. What makes SnapFiles different
is:
A: One common method is to
use IMAP
(Internet Message Access Protocol). Gmail offers an IMAP option.
A good way to get started is to set up a Gmail account (free), check out
their Getting
started with IMAP for Gmail, and do some testing. It
is likely to take awhile to become proficient in using IMAP.

Information on some items discussed: 1. File Search - Have you found that searching for a file on XP is slow? If your search is for file and folder names only. i.e. does not include searching file contents, "Everything" (Freeware) is an administrative tool that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows. You type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed. How long will it take to index my files? "Everything" only uses file and folder names and generally takes a few seconds to build its database. As an example a fresh install of XP SP2 (about 20,000 files) will take about 1 second to index; 1,000,000 files will take about 1 minute. For additional information

Information on some items discussed: 1. No Icons on Desktop - All icons disappeared from the Desktop. Likely solution: Right click on Desktop, A menu will come up, make sure that "Show Desktop Icons" is checked. 2. Windows Live Mail - With Outlook Express being dropped in Vista, Microsoft offered users a free replacement application, Windows Mail, essentially a modern Outlook Express. Later Windows Mail was converted to Windows Live Mail. While it contains the mail features of Outlook Express, a great many features were added, many geared for social networking. Some long time Outlook Express users have found that these additional features "annoying". Woody Leonhard has reported user privacy concerns, (click here). As a result some (many?) former Outlook Express users now use (Thunderbird). |
