Mail Lists

Introduction - In order to send or receive LACS mail list messages, you must be a member of LACS.

All LACS mail lists are hosted by Yahoo! Groups. While having a Yahoo! ID is not required, it is recommended to have one; for the benefits go to   and 

To avoid the possibility of passing along viruses, etc. attachments, e.g. files, HTML, are removed except as noted.

LACS Mail Lists - The primary mail lists are LACSLIST and LACSPC:

  Member Sharing

LACSLIST is for LACS members to request help from other members and share computer related topics with one another.  This mailing list is not moderated.

  - Club Announcements

LACSPC is for official LACS announcements.  This mailing list is moderated.

Within a few days of becoming a LACS member, you'll be subscribed to both of these mailing lists; Yahoo! Groups will send you confirmation messages.  If you don't receive the confirmation, let us know,

You can unsubscribe from any LACS mailing list by following the directions in the footer of every mail list message.

Other LACS mail lists

There are 5 other LACS mail lists, none of which are moderated.  All are Opt-In (you subscribe only if you wish).  Since all LACS mail lists are for members only, LACS membership will be verified.  The other mail lists, in alphabetical order, are:

DIRS-LACS is for LACS Officers and Board to communicate with one another on LACS matters.  Other LACS members may subscribe.  Attachments are permitted.

LACSBIM is for LACS Beginners/Internet/eMail SIG members to share with and help one another.

Yahoo! ID

Q: What is a Yahoo ID?

A: A Yahoo! ID is a user name that allows you to access all of Yahoo!'s personalized services, e.g. Groups, Mail.

Q: Why should I get a Yahoo! ID?

A: Without a Yahoo! ID every LACS members can send and receive LACS mail list messages and use some of the Yahoo! Groups mail list tools.

With a Yahoo! ID you will be able to use all of the Yahoo! Groups mail list tools

In addition you can:

  • Access and search the mail list message archives.
  • Download the latest issue of User Friendly (in color) from the [lacspc] mail list site. For details

An easy way to get a Yahoo ID is to . On the page that comes up click on the "Sign up for Yahoo!" link near the top of the page.

When supplying the required information, you're strongly encouraged to answer questions in a way which maximizes your privacy.  When selecting a birthday, make sure you're over 21 to avoid some restrictions.  During the registration process Yahoo! will send you a message to which you must reply, either by sending a 'normal' reply or by clicking on the confirmation link within the message.

Upon completion of the sign-up process, you'll be be presented with a menu with links to all the mail lists to which you're subscribed.  For any not listed, there's a Wizard to help you,


         
Mail List Tools

Message delivery settings via e-mail - For subscribers with or without a Yahoo! ID following are some tools available to you:

  • Account Bouncing - If you aren't getting your mail list messages, Yahoo! Groups may have temporarily disabled your account. Why? Because a group message sent to your email address was returned as undeliverable ("bouncing"). One common reason is that your mail box is full. When your account is disabled, any message you send will be rejected.

    When your account is disabled, Yahoo! Groups tries later to see if your address is still bouncing messages. After a few unsuccessful tries they send you a message with a link. When you reply to the message or click on the link, your account will be reactivated shortly.

    With a Yahoo! ID you can reactivate your account via the web,

  • Message Delivery Settings - You can change some settings via e-mail. Using LACSLIST an example the following options are available. When sending an email, anything in the Subject field and message body is ignored. Following are the five available options:

    • Normal - Change message delivery to individual emails.
      Send e-mail to:  lacslist-normal@yahoogroups.com

    • No Mail - Change message delivery to no email (vacation stop). All messages are available in the message archives (available only on-line; a Yahoo ID required).
      Send e-mail to:  lacslist-nomail@yahoogroups.com

    • Digest - Change message delivery to one composite message a day, one that contains each individusl messages sent that day.
      Send E-mail to:  lacslist-digest@yahoogroups.com

    • Subscribe - Subscribe to a mailing list. Your membership will be be verified normally within 24 hours.
      Send e-mail to:  lacslist-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

    • Unsubscribe - Unsubscribe from a mailing list.
      Send e-mail to:  lacslist-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
      This information is contained in the footer of each mail list message.

      NOTE: After sending an 'unsubscribe' message, Yahoo! replies with a confirmation message to which you must reply in order for it to take effect. It may take up to 72 hours for email to stop.

Additional mail list tools with a Yahoo ID!

  • Posting from an alternate address - You have an option to post a message to a Yahoo! Groups hosted mail list from an email address other then one where you receive your messages,   On the page you get after signing-in, click on the "Edit" link on the right under "Options". You will be asked to validate this address.

  • Changing your mail delivery address - To change the address where you get your mail list messages, use the link above to add the address where you wish to get your mail. When done
