May 2018 Program

Chromebooks
Speaker: Dr.Ronald Brown,
Program Director, Silvercom Computer and Technology Club, Mesa Arizona

Are you looking for a computer that isn’t complicated to use? How about one you can’t wreck by making a mistake from the keyboard? No maintenance, malware, Trojans, and viruses? No subscription cost and it’s always up-to-date with web technology? The Chromebook is for you!
Chromebooks are relatively inexpensive laptops and tablets manufactured by the usual companies that use the Google Chrome operating system (not Windows) and many other Google and Android programs. Your data is stored in the Google Cloud and can be instantly restored if it is lost on the device. The software, utilities and data of your Chromebook and Android phone are automatically kept up to date and synced.

Meet Our Presenter
Dr. Brown spoke to us on January 9 on Google Photos. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Alberta in 1976. He was a Family Practitioner on Vancouver Island and bought an interest in a start-up software company in Calgary that made an Electronic Patient Record. The company grew, and he represented it at conferences in Canada and the U.S. for 20 years. After he retired from medicine and the company, he settled in Arizona but kept his summer home in British Columbia. He loves technology and spends his spare time doing presentations.
